CITY OF WHITTIER, ALASKA SEASONAL EMT III/MICP FIREFIGHTER
The City of Whittier, Alaska is seeking a highly capable individual for the position of Seasonal EMT III/MICP Firefighter for the period of May – September, 2017.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under minimal supervision, the incumbent would serve as an EMT III/Paramedic/Firefighter and be responsible for:
-Rendering emergency medical assistance and fire protection to the public.
-Ensuring ambulances and fire apparatus are stocked and ready to respond.
-Responding to accidents and other emergencies, sometimes encountering situations which may be life threatening.
-Performing medical procedures, as required, and in strict compliance with standing orders and protocols dictated by the sponsoring physician.
-Determining, with due regard to the patient's condition, if and how he/she can be moved and transported to appropriate medical facility.
-Cleaning and restocking the ambulance after every call. Must be able to work effectively with volunteers in a teaching environment.
-Complete written reports at the completion of each call. Reports to the Director of Public Safety. EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED.
LICENSES AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be at least 21 years of age. Current State of Alaska certification as an EMT III or Paramedic. Current Basic Life Support certification. Valid Alaska driver’s license and clean driving record with ability to be insured while operating city vehicles. Preferred: Firefighter I/II, ACLS, PALS, Fire and EMS Instructor.
As a condition of employment, the person selected will be required to successfully complete a drug test prior to beginning work. Subject to criminal history background check. Must present work authorization identification within three days of hire (INS requirement).
TERMS: This is a seasonal summer position lasting from May through September. Transportation to Whittier is the responsibility of the applicant. Work/shift schedule is 4 days on/3 days off based on two or more Paramedics/EMT III’s/Firefighters to provide 24/7 coverage. Shared housing is provided while on shift. Salary: $20-28 p/h depending on experience and certification.
