Description:

Fairfield Benton Emergency Services is seeking a full-time Firefighter/EMT to fill 2 current vacancies. 

Fairfield has a large mix of rural area of residential homes, large in town area with many single-family homes, multifamily homes, businesses, commercial businesses, industrial processing plant, 2 college campuses, large high school and junior high and multiple elementary schools.  Benton is across the Kennebec River and is a mix of residential and small businesses, with many more miles of rural areas.  The department protects approximately 85 square miles of territory and serves a population of around 9000 residents.

The department provides fire suppression, fire prevention, BLS and ALS non transporting EMS, and a host of other services to the Towns of Fairfield and Benton.  We are a combination department operating with a full-time staff of 7 personnel, 14 call members, and a full-time Fire Chief.  Operations are out of 1 station with 1 Rescue/Engine, 1 Tanker/Pumper, 75’ Quint, 5 Ton Brush Truck, Pickup utilized for EMS response.  We are licensed as a non-transporting Basic EMS service permitted to the Paramedic level.  Trucks are equipped with LIFEPAK 15 monitors, LUKAS CPR Device and much more. 

2023 calls for service totaled 1880 calls.  We respond to a wide variety of emergency calls for service throughout the year.

Position Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Valid Motor vehicle operator’s license with no serious infractions.

Must be a Maine licensed EMT-Basic with a requirement to obtain AEMT within a year or the next available class.  EMT Basic students currently enrolled in a class are encouraged to apply. 

Firefighter I or Basic firefighter Certification, with a requirement to complete Firefighter 1 and 2 certifications within a reasonable time determined by the Chief.

EVOC or Class B commercial license

Any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, abilities, and work experience may be considered.

 

Pay & Benefits

Full-time Firefighter/EMT’s are non-exempt, union positions. The contract does offer full-time qualified candidates lateral starting pay and vacation commensurate with years of service. The starting yearly base rate for EMT-Basic is $59,000.00 with additional education and training stipends for higher EMS licensure.  Lateral transfer for higher licensure and training is available.

Hours & Schedule

This position works a forty-two (56) hour/week schedule. The schedule consists of a 24-hour rotating shift schedule with a built in Kelly Day.
